The Achilleion Museum and the Corfu Association for Culture, Sports, and Environment invite everyone to a three-day cinematic event dedicated to Empress Elisabeth of Austria, “Sissi,” on September 11, 13, and 15, 2021.

These three iconic films reveal unknown aspects of Sissi’s life and character. For those who already admire her, it is a chance to deepen their appreciation; for others, a unique opportunity to discover the legendary Empress.

Saturday, September 11 – “Sissi” (1955)
The sun bathes the lush Bavarian mountains as young Sissi’s laughter echoes through the green forests. At her parents’ castle, preparations for the grand spring ball are underway. Sissi dons her sparkling gown, eager for the evening when she might meet her prince. Her adventures take her to Austria, where she meets Emperor Franz Joseph, falls in love, and receives a marriage proposal, becoming Empress of Austria. Her kindness and joy bring happiness to others—and in return, to herself.

Monday, September 13 – “Sissi, The Young Empress” (1956)
Sissi demonstrates her diplomatic skills and tender motherly nature at the imperial court. Her early years as Empress are marked by conflicts with the rigid court protocol and her stern mother-in-law. When her daughter is born and a dispute arises over her education, Sissi must navigate her first marital crisis. Eventually, reconciliation is achieved, and Sissi is allowed to keep her child.

Wednesday, September 15 – “Sissi, Fateful Years” (1957)
The young Empress faces the intrigues of her mother-in-law once again. While Emperor Franz Joseph is in Vienna, Sissi travels to Hungary with a count to appease rebellious nobles. Rumors of a romance circulate, but illness forces her to stay in Corfu to recover. Later, she reunites with the Emperor in Italy, where her charm wins the favor of the local population.
