On September 10, 2021, the symbolic christening of the MS Destinyland took place at the Achilleion Museum in Corfu, commemorating the 123rd anniversary of Empress Sisi’s death.
With the presence of the creative team and a limited number of visitors, the world premiere of the pilot episode of the series Destinyland was presented, marking the beginning of a six-episode multilingual digital series.
The episodes will be released to the international audience on the website www.destinyland.eu every three weeks, on Fridays, until December 24 – the birthday of the Empress.
The Story
An international ensemble of freelance artists arrives in Corfu as if shipwrecked. Like Odysseus, who, according to legend, experienced the final stop of his Odyssey on the island of the Phaeacians before returning to Ithaca, the ensemble is now hosted on the island, gathering new creative energy at this fateful location. The Achilleion opens its doors, welcoming the ensemble for a three-month digital residency centered in Corfu, which becomes their safe harbor during a challenging time.
Amid the pandemic, these artists embark on a digital exploratory journey. This creates a timely framework that intellectually and emotionally brings the romantic, transformed world of Greek antiquity closer to the audience through a playful mix of images and information.
Step by step, the ensemble shares the preparation of a planned future work with their audience. Viewers become part of the creative process and experience, gaining exciting behind-the-scenes insights into contemporary artistic work under the challenging conditions of the pandemic, as well as an authentic glimpse into Sisi’s escape from reality into a utopian, dreamlike world of idealized ancient Greece.
The digital ship – the MS Destinyland – carries the ensemble and the audience on a discovery mission. Together, they experience a narrative that flows across centuries to the present moment, navigating contemporary challenges in the so-called “Lockdownland.”
