Lyric Song Recital at the Achilleion Museum
The Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (ETAD) and the Achilleion Museum invite you on Wednesday, 1 September 2021, at 20:30, to a Lyric Song Recital by the world-renowned soprano Myrto Papathanasiou.
The recital takes place within the framework of the temporary exhibition “Maria Callas: The World’s Opera Diva”, hosted at the Achilleion Museum from 11 July to 31 October, showcasing dresses, sheet music, accessories, and personal items of the legendary diva.
About the Artists
Myrto Papathanasiou
Soprano Myrto Papathanasiou was born in Larissa, Greece, where she began her studies in piano and music theory. She earned a diploma in Vocal Performance from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki with distinction and awards, and later completed her studies in Milan under Roberto Coviello as a scholarship holder of the Athens Concert Hall.
Her international career includes performances in major opera houses worldwide, such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Theatre in London, the Tokyo and Sydney Operas, San Diego Opera, State Operas of Vienna, Berlin, Munich, Zurich, Barcelona, Rome, Verona, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Copenhagen, Opera Garnier and Champs-Élysées in Paris, La Monnaie in Brussels, Montreal, Luxembourg, Dallas, Bologna, Genoa, Catania, Turin, Monte Carlo, Montpellier, and Vienna’s Theater an der Wien.
Notable roles include Violetta in La Traviata, Donna Anna and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Constanze in The Abduction from the Seraglio, Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito, Tosca, Manon, Juliet (Roméo et Juliette), Mimì (La Bohème), and many others spanning Baroque to contemporary repertoire. She has recorded operas for Sony Classical and released DVDs of her performances, including Rusalka from La Monnaie.
Ioannis Tsakanikas
Born in Athens, Tsakanikas studied piano at the National Conservatory of Athens under renowned pianist Rita Vourtsi, receiving top honors and awards for excellence. He has participated in masterclasses with distinguished pianists and performed chamber music recitals internationally. He frequently collaborates with the Athens Concert Hall, the National Opera of Greece, and has contributed to educational music programs. Since 2021, he has been a repetiteur and piano instructor in France.
The recital is organized by ETAD and the Achilleion Museum, in collaboration with the Corfu Association of Culture, Sports, and Environment and the Ionian Islands Region, and will take place in the forecourt of the Achilleion Museum.
